Encounters
and gmproducts worked in South Liverpool
as part of Capital of Cultures Four Corners project 07, a city-wide
neighbourhood regeneration programme working with residents,
cultural organisations and neighbourhood services. The project sought
to examine the life of Liverpool’s communities by reflecting
significant changes and upheaval, capturing memories, aspirations
and supporting community cohesion through creative activity.
Using
a rich blend of creative writing, visual arts, photography,
digital images, film making and audio technology, five projects
were developed that built on the life of the communities
of Liverpool.
Encounters
led on one of the projects, creating the Moey; a modified
police pod transformed into a mobile shop that
toured around the area for five weeks. Each week Encounters followed the same route around south Liverpool as determined
by the Neighbourhood Management team. We placed ourselves
at various stops (shopping areas, community
centres, open spaces and streets) where we engaged passers
by and groups in creative and interactive activities that have
as their focus questions around the theme of neighbourhoods,
neighbours and neighbourliness. The project culminated on
European Neighbours Day 29 May 07 where the results of our tour
were revealed and shared to a city wide audience.
